I don't usually do free advertising, but if you haven't seen Rain, do try and catch it.
With the setting of the show being a rehearsal for a performance, it is able to carry the audience through a journey that is so often hidden away - the relationships between performers, mistakes that happen backstage, and the humorous drama hidden behind the curtains - those so often unknown to the audiences. Essentially, Rain is a show within a show. I believe that it is through this narrative style, that the director, Daniele Finze Pasca, is able to bring the stage closer to the audiences.
A storyline constructed based on childhood memories, Pasca is able to reenact these memories on stage. And since they are those of the everyday, the audiences are able to associate their own memories and experiences to those of Pasca, while being amazed at the same time by the elegant acts being performed. Because of that, Rain does not only trigger a sense of nostalgia through Pasca's experiences, but to every individual watching it, with every single one of them able to relate the show back to their own experiences as a child.
Thank you for the awesome evening Simon! I guess missing a few hours of Greys Anatomy was worthwhile after all... :P
